Demolition drive leads to altercation

Udupi: The Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) demolished a temporary shed on Friday, that was erected for the fisherwomen to carry out business near Kinnimulki by the side of NH-66.

When CMC officials arrived at the spot for the demolition drive, people opposed it. While CMC officials claimed the shed as illegal, fishermen argued that it was built with the knowledge of a councillor.

Udupi CMC commissioner Uday Shetty said that the shed was erected on government land. He added that the civic body had given a warning two days back, to vacate the place. The CMC officials carried out the demolition drive, and a complaint was filed in Malpe police station, over an executive engineer being abused, he said.
