Mangaluru: Expert PU College, Valachil, in collaboration with Spices N Chefs, a unit of Spade Integrated Services, began its fourth consecutive Food Safety Week on June 7, in observance of World Food Safety Day.
The week-long programme was inaugurated by principal Subramanya Udupa HC with the unveiling of a ceremonial banner. The principal said food safety is a shared responsibility and noted that sustained awareness initiatives help strengthen safe practices among food handlers and larger community. He also administered a food safety oath to the gathering.
Rajesh ET, unit head, delivered the presidential address. The programme was hosted by MC Souparnika, quality manager, with support from the quality and food and beverage team. The initiative is being conducted under the guidance of Narendra L Nayak, chairman, and Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice chairperson, of the Expert Group of Institutions.
Planned activities include competitions like calligraphy, poster making, extempore speech, a food safety quiz, jumbled words, reel making, and a Food Safety Hunt. Expert sessions will be led by a dietitian, a nutritionist, and a doctor, focusing on food adulteration awareness, nutrition fundamentals, and emergency health preparedness. The programme will conclude with a valedictory ceremony on June 15.
