Officials of bureau of immigration seized $26,700 from the chief engineer of a LPG carrier MV Maharshi Vamadeva that had berthed at New Mangalore Port Trust to unload LPG late on Tuesday.

MANGALORE: Officials of bureau of immigration seized $26,700 from the chief engineer of a LPG carrier MV Maharshi Vamadeva that had berthed at New Mangalore Port Trust to unload LPG late on Tuesday.
The accused has been named as Jithendra Kumar Sabarwal, 52, resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. Mangalore City Police said Jithendra Kumar was on his way to his native place and going through immigration when he was detained and questioned on doubt.

Immigration personnel recovered 267 US dollars of the face value of 100 dollar bills from his person. A case under Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) has been registered in Panambur police station in this regard.
