Bijnor: A 10-year-old boy drowned while bathing in the Shukro river in Nagina Dehat area on Monday after he and five other children from his family entered the water, officials said on Tuesday.
Following the incident, local residents and police launched a rescue operation. While Umer could not be saved, three other children who also began to drown were rescued and rushed to a private hospital in Najibabad. One of the boys, Faizan, 15, helped rescue Uzair, 12, Shad, 16, and Hifzan, 8, officials said.
Bijnor superintendent of police Abhishek Jha said the body of the deceased was sent to the district hospital for postmortem. “The condition of the remaining kids is stable,” Jha added.
