Mumbai : BJP candidate Mihir Kotecha on Monday blamed the erstwhile
Shiv Sena for the dumping ground in eastern suburbs, and said the Sena mayor had approved it.
In his poll promise, he assured voters during campaign on Monday that the two dumping grounds at Deonar and Kanjurmarg will be shifted out of Mumbai.
“Shiv Sena (UBT) approved dumping grounds to Bhandup, Nahur, Kanjurmarg, Vikhroli and risked the health of lakhs of citizens,” he said.
Kotecha further said that Shiv Sena's Datta Dalvi was mayor when dumping ground was approved and didn't object to the proposal. "As Nahur, Bhandup, Kanjurmarg, Vikhroli have majority Marathi population. MLAs and corporators of Shiv Sena (UBT) were elected in large numbers from this area. Why the Shiv Sena (UBT) did not take into account the health issues of the Marathi population here and oppose the dumping grounds?," he asked.
Kotecha said that the contract for dumping ground at Deonar and Kanjurmarg is due for renewal in 2025. "I will make sure that this contract will not be renewed under any circumstances. For this, I will follow up with the government and will get this issue resolved. I'm determined to make North East Mumbai dumping grounds free" he added.
