MUMBAI: Impressed by its dedicated social work, the German Dentists' Sponsorship for Leprosy and Distressed Areas has sent in a donation of nearly Rs 35 lakhs to the Goa Hindu Association.

mumbai: impressed by its dedicated social work, the german dentists' sponsorship for leprosy and distressed areas has sent in a donation of nearly rs 35 lakhs to the goa hindu association (gha) here for its home for the aged at bandoda in goa. union power minister suresh prabhu and goa chief minister manohar parrikar will inaugurate two new sections of the old home on saturday, according to gha joint secretary ramkrishna nayak.

the home for the aged, named, ``sneha mandir,'' was constructed in 1992. it was inaugurated by eminent jurist nani palkhivala. now the mandir has completed ten years. while the home was adding one wing after another, ``sayamtara'' building was constructed as a geriatrics centre. the original building could keep only eight inmates. as the waiting list kept on getting new applicants, it was decided to extend the facility. the german donation has been used for this extended accommodation. now, 20 inmates will be able to stay in the centre, which will be inaugurated by the goa chief minister. the physiotherapy and rehabilitation centre will be inaugurated by mr prabhu.
