MUMBAI: The
monsoon is expected to arrive in Mumbai by June 11 and spread to the rest of the state by June 18, officials said in a review of the upcoming kharif season on Thursday. It is expected to be 96% to 104% of normal.
Officials also said 60% of the Mahatma Phule loan waiver scheme announced in December, had been fulfilled. The waiver was granted to 32 lakh farmers. However, 11 lakh farmers were yet to receive the waiver worth Rs 8,100 crore. Officials also said that the state had produced 410 lakh quintals of cotton, of which 344 lakh quintals had been purchased.
