MUMBAI: The NCP on Thursday demanded a judicial probe into the procurement of photographs of national leaders and text books worth Rs 106 crore by the school education department, led by BJP leader Vinod Tawde. The photos were bought for distribution in schools.
NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik alleged that the photographs of national leaders are available at the government central press for Rs 11 each, while the school education department procured them for Rs 1,395 each.

“We found that the entire purchase was made on a single day on March 31, 2015. Since the school education department, headed by Tawde, is directly involved in the procurement. A judicial inquiry should be ordered,” Malik said.
Tawde denied the charge, saying the allegations against him are baseless. “The allegations are made on the basis of false information. I am denying the charges in toto,” Tawde said.
Meanwhile, state NCP President Sunil Tatkare described the Devendra Fadnavis-led BJP government as visionless. “When Fadnavis took over the reins, he had presented a vision document, but now it appears that the crucial document has been dumped for obvious reasons,” Tatkare said.
Launching a frontal attack on the CM, Tatkare said absolutely no steps have been taken to tackle the worst ever drought or halt farmers’ suicides. “No concrete steps have been taken to tackle agrarian crisis. In fact, after Fadnavis took over, there was a steady spurt in farmers’ suicides,” Tatkare said. He demanded that for protection of farmers and said the CM should immediately waive off their loans and sanction additional financial assistance to them.
