Deputy engineer caught taking bribe on last day of job

Vitthal Kavadu Selokar, deputy engineer of Tumsar subdivision of Bhandara ZP’s building and construction division, was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs10,000 by sleuths of ACB Bhandara on Thursday, December 31, the day of his retirement. An offence has been registered under section 7,13(1)(D) of Anti Corruption Act at Tumsar police station.

Rohit Bhangade is a contractor who had got work of a cement road in village Garra Bheda costing Rs7.5 lakh. He completed the road construction on December 1, 2015, and sent his manager with measurement book and completion report to deputy engineer Vitthal Selokar. The manager submitted the necessary documents and asked for cheque for the work done. Selokar asked him to pay bribe of Rs10,000 to complete the formalities. He agreed to pay the amount and reported the matter to Rohit Bhongade.
The latter was reluctant to pay the amount, so he asked his manager to lodge a complaint with DySP ACB Bhandara. After preliminary probe, ACB Bhandara laid a trap and deputy engineer Vitthal Selokar was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of Rs10,000.
December 31 was the last day of Selokar’s service and staff of the office had organized a farewell programme to felicitate him. He was caught red-handed by ACB Bhandara soon after the programme.
