Yavatmal: Three persons died due to suspected heatstroke at Digras in Yavatmal on Thursday as the scorching summer heat intensifies across Vidarbha.
The bodies were found at different locations across the city, raising concerns over the severe heatwave gripping the region.
One of the deceased has been identified as Anand Raju Wadve (26), a resident of Mhais Gavhane in Hingoli district. Preliminary reports suggest that Anand was sleeping inside his vehicle under extreme heat conditions. Authorities suspect that the intense temperature inside the closed vehicle may have led to suffocation and heatstroke, resulting in his death.
The identities of the other two deceased persons are yet to be confirmed.
Another body, believed to be of a man aged around 50, was discovered lying beside the main road in front of the Government Rest House.
The discovery of three bodies at different locations in the city in a single day has created panic among residents of Digras. Temperatures in the Yavatmal district have reportedly crossed 43 degrees Celsius, with roads remaining deserted during afternoon hours due to the unbearable heat.
Health Officer Virendra Aswar said, "Three bodies were brought to the Rural Hospital in Digras today. Prima facie, the deaths may have been caused by severe heat exposure or heatstroke. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after post-mortem examinations."
