Two held for theft, police recover jewellery & cash worth 1 crore
Noida: Two persons were arrested on Sunday after a gunfight for allegedly carrying out thefts in Noida. The accused used to come to Noida from Gurgaon in the metro and carry out recce of target houses. Police recovered two illegal pistols, as well as jewellery and cash worth over Rs 1 crore. The suspects, Noor Jamal Sheikh and Rajkumar Vishwas are both natives of West Bengal and reside in Gurgaon, said DCP (Noida) Rambadan Singh. "A police team led by ACP Praveen Singh was checking vehicles at Shashi Chowk cut in Sector 39. The suspects were on a bike, and when police signalled them to stop, they tried to flee towards Agahpur village," said Singh. Cops chased the suspects into the forested area of Sector 42, where the criminals opened fire on the police team. In a retaliatory gunfight, Noor Jamal Sheikh got injured. The suspects were apprehended, and their two pistols were seized, along with jewellery and cash worth Rs 1 crore, and equipment used to break into houses. "Eight cases are registered against Noor Jamal and Rajkumar in other states, including Haryana. A reward of Rs 25,000 was announced for their capture. They may have committed multiple crimes in their native place. We are ascertaining their criminal history from other police stations," said Singh.Additional DCP Manish Kumar Mishra said that both the suspects have been committing theft in houses for the last several years. They would gather information from domestic helpers and laundrymen and break in when the owners left the house. They stole cash and jewellery, used pistols to scare people if needed, and divided the loot with their informants. "They told us about a recent theft case in Sector 39. More are being uncovered," added Singh. They also told police about the involvement of a goldsmith who bought the stolen goods. Police said that action will be taken against them under the Gangster Act and further investigation is underway.
