Patna: Now, the state will have a live tracking system to locate public transport vehicles and help the passengers in emergency situation as state transport minister Sheela Kumari on Tuesday launched a command and control centre set up at the department’s headquarters for real-time monitoring of private cabs and buses.
The minister said the vehicle location tracking (VLT) device and panic (emergency) buttons have been made mandatory from August 1 in all public transport in Bihar for the safety of passengers, especially women.

“Live monitoring of public transport vehicles will be done through the command and control centre. This will be a very important step for women’s safety, if needed,” Sheela said.
Transport secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal said under the Nirbhaya Framework, it has been decided to install VLT device and panic button in all public transport vehicles. “This will start from Patna as a pilot project and will be implemented in other cities as well. At present, real-time monitoring of buses of Bihar State Road Transport Corporation(BSRTC) is being done,” he said.
