PATNA: Jewellery shops are all decked up for Akshaya Tritiya, one of the most auspicious days of the year according to Hindu belief. A simple puja at home, feasting on special summer delicacies and stepping out for the customary shopping for

gold

or other valuables will mark Akshaya Tritiya for most people on Friday. Even shop owners are expecting brisk business this Akshaya Tritiya.

Secretary of

Bihar Rajya Swarnkar Sangh Jeevan Kumar

said gold market had picked up pace five days before the festival. “Gold sales had registered a significant drop after demonetisation. However, the market trend is quite encouraging now and we expect good business this Akshaya Tritiya,”

Kumar

added.

From zero making charge to lucrative exchange offers, shop owners are trying various business tricks and skills to attract the buyers. “We are giving 100% off on the making of diamond jewellery and 50% on the making of gold jewellery,” said Sanjay Kumar, employee of a jewellery shop on Ashok Rajpath.

Jewellers in the city are offering different collections to the customers this year. “Women don’t go by the weight, but by the design of the jewellery. Instead of plain gold, they prefer it to be mixed with white gold or platinum along with rhodium plating. Lightweight jewellery is mostly preferred these days,” said Prateek Gaurav, who owns a jewellery shop at Bakarganj. “We have customers from different economical background and they purchase the jewellery according to their pocket size. Some even go for silver coins or silver jewellery depending on their purchasing capacity,” he added.

Alok Verma, sales manager of another jewellery showroom , which has its outlet off Dak Bungalow crossing and Boring Road said, “Although lightweight jewelleries are much in demand, people, who purchase jewellery for wedding on Akshaya Tritiya, prefer antique jewellery and polka sets.”

Keeping in mind huge rush on Akshaya Tritiya day, many buyers had already booked their jewellery in advance by paying token money. Their orders will be delivered on Friday. “We close our shop by 9pm. However, on Friday, it will remain open till late into the night. We have also requested the police to step up security in and around the shop,” Verma added.
