Man bludgeons wife to death with grinding stone in Patna
Patna: A 19-year-old woman was allegedly bludgeoned to death with a grinding stone by her husband in the Machhli Gali locality under Shastri Nagar police station area in Patna on Tuesday night following a dispute over her participation in a ‘shobha yatra’. The victim, Priti Kumari, was married to Vijendra Kumar. The couple had a one-month-old daughter. Vijendra was also reportedly upset about the birth of a girl child, police said.
Priti’s aunt, Lakhpati Devi, said, “Vijendra had come to his in-laws’ house few days ago to take part in an engagement ceremony. On Tuesday evening, a Sai Shobha procession was taken out in Machhli Gali. Priti also went to dance with other women. This angered Vijendra, and an argument broke out between them. Later that night, after dinner, the family went to sleep. During the night, Vijendra allegedly struck Priti with a grinding stone, took her jewellery and other belongings, and fled. Neighbours rushed Priti to the IGIMS, where she succumbed to her injuries.”
Priti’s mother, Urmila Devi, alleged that Vijendra had also been harassing her daughter for dowry. “He had demanded money. We had given assurances. Even when my daughter was in the hospital, he said he wouldn’t keep the baby if it was a girl. When her delivery was due, he abandoned her at the hospital and fled. We bore all the expenses,” she said. Urmila works as a sweeper with the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC).
Sachivalaya SDPO-2 Saket Kumar, “The murder weapon, a grinding stone, has been seized by the FSL team. Raids are underway to arrest the accused.”
