Patna: An irate mob on Friday blocked traffic on the Patna-Bakhtiyarpur NH-30 in protest against the death of a 42-year-old man. Lorik Singh, a storekeeper at Danapur railway station, died when a speeding truck struck his scooter from behind while he was returning home from his night shift in the morning.According to police, the impact was so severe that the scooter became lodged in the truck’s front wheel and was dragged for nearly 50 meters. Singh was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival. A tragic accident early Friday morning led to public outrage and a temporary blockade on National Highway 30 near Patna.In response, an irate crowd gathered at the accident site and blocked traffic on both sides of the highway for about 30 minutes, causing congestion. The protest was eventually called off after Fatuha SDPO Avdhesh Prasad arrived and assured the crowd of action.Locals and family members expressed anger over the frequent accidents caused by heavy vehicles parked along the roadside near warehouses and hotels. They demanded a ban on such parking practices.The SDPO confirmed that the truck involved in the accident had been seized and the victim’s body was sent for postmortem. He added that the driver fled the spot and warned warehouse and hotel operators of strict action if roadside parking rules were violated.
