Dy CM sends 32L cheque to pay debt of Sant Tukaram’s descendant

Pune: Deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday sent a cheque of Rs32 lakh through MLA Vijay Shivtare to the family of Shirish Maharaj More who allegedly died by suicide on Feb 5 at his residence in Dehu.More was the eleventh descendant of Sant Tukaram Maharaj and a renowned kirtankar, spiritual speaker and an RSS functionary. The Pimpri Chinchwad police recovered a note after More hanged himself from a ceiling fan. In the note, he urged his friends to repay his debt of Rs32 lakh.Shivtare, the Shiv Sena MLA from Purandar, handed over the cheque given by Shinde to More's family in Dehu on Sunday evening.More's uncle Mahesh More told TOI, "We are yet to decide whether to accept the cheque or return it to the deputy CM. We have decided to keep it for now out of respect for Shinde and Shivtare. We will take a final decision once all rituals are over."Mahesh further said the family members were reluctant to accept the cheque. "However, Shivtare came with a positive intention and requested us to take it. The deputy CM offered help considering Shirish Maharaj's good deeds in his life."Meanwhile, More is survived by his father — a retired bank employee, his mother — a housewife, and a 22-year-old sister — who is unmarried.
