Pillion rider dies as scooter rams van

Pune: A pillion rider (21) died, and his friend (19) was seriously injured when their scooter rammed a stationary van from the left side along the Mhalunge-Nande Road in Mulshi on Monday night.
Bavdhan police identified the deceased as Mhalunge resident Altaf Shaikh and the scooter rider as Pranav Tak .
The van driver lodged a police complaint in this regard.
Assistant inspector Vijaykumar Dhumal of the Bavdhan police told TOI that the complainant had parked his van near a washing centre about 100m off the Mhalunge-Nande Road. "Tak was riding at high speed when he lost control. He crashed into the van. Shaikh died on the spot," Dhumal said.
"We registered a case of accidental death. Tak was booked on the charge of causing death by negligence," Dhumal said.
