Pune: Over 3,000 traders in the city have decided to support the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), which recently released a National Charter of Traders in its bid to play a decisive role in the Lok Sabha elections.
The charter lists the core issues concerning domestic business in India. The CAIT has said the trading community across India will vote collectively for the party that accepts and promises to implement the charter.
Ajit Sethiya, coordinator, west zone-CAIT, said around 3,000 traders in Pune are part of the associations affiliated to the CAIT. “Gross neglect of traders for decades has compelled us to convert traders into a vote bank. After analysing the response of the parties, the CAIT will issue a mandate and urge the traders across the country to vote accordingly,” said Sethiya, who is also the president of Pune Jaggery Merchants Association.
