Chhattisgarh CM visits Maoists rehab centre in Sukma, says 2,392 Maoists have surrendered so far in Bastar

RAIPUR: In a region once synonymous with Maoist violence, Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district is scripting a new story of rehabilitation-driven development, with the state govt pushing to reintegrate former cadres into the mainstream.Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Monday visited a rehabilitation centre in Sukma, where he reviewed ongoing skill development programmes and interacted with rehabilitated individuals. “The confidence visible among rehabilitated individuals shows that with the right guidance and opportunities, even those who strayed can rebuild their lives,” he said.CM said that as many as 2,392 Maoists have surrendered so far in Bastar, including Sukma, with 361 individuals already beginning new lives through rehabilitation initiatives. CM said that in 2026 alone, around 307 beneficiaries have undergone training, while 313 youths who returned to the mainstream are receiving a monthly stipend of Rs 10,000. The district administration has also distributed mobile phones to 107 rehabilitated individuals to help them stay connected and adapt to a digital lifestyle. The govt has also extended support to families affected by Maoist violence, providing compassionate appointments to 115 individuals in govt services, including police roles. During the event, Sai distributed appointment letters, housing keys under PMAY, and toolkits, and unveiled a coffee table book highlighting Sukma’s transformation.
