Ranchi: The state capital is witnessing a surge in gaming zones, transforming the city's recreational landscape. From digital gaming consoles to physical activities like trampolining, these indoor hubs have become a preferred choice for children and adults alike. While traditional playgrounds retain their charm, their dwindling numbers in urban spaces have been compensated by these gaming arenas.Young parents find these zones a practical alternative, especially when parks and playgrounds are distant from residential areas or raise safety concerns. The well-secured premises of gaming zones offer peace of mind to parents seeking supervised physical activity for their children.Priyanshu Kumari, the receptionist at Starcade Gamezone in Harmu Housing Colony, stated, "Gaming has become increasingly popular in Ranchi. The scenario has changed dramatically from three to four years ago when we needed discounts to attract customers. Now, people come in droves, especially for the trampoline section, which remains consistently crowded."Gaming zones at Nucleus Mall and Mall of Ranchi have emerged as major attractions, featuring popular activities like virtual reality racing, bowling, air hockey, and trampoline jumping. "These venues offer diverse activities under one roof, keeping children engaged while parents shop or relax," shares Anjali Verma, a parent.However, experts emphasize the continued importance of traditional playgrounds. Dr Ravi Shekhar, a Ranchi-based paediatrician, stated, "Playgrounds provide children with larger spaces to explore and move freely. Open-air physical activities are crucial for developing motor skills and natural social interactions. Gaming zones, despite their appeal, cannot fully replicate these benefits."
