Surat: A 31-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by a relative in city’s Lalgate area on Monday night over suspicions of an affair with the accused’s wife.
Lalgate police arrested the accused, identified as Shafi Ansari, and registered a murder case following the incident. The deceased was identified as Altmas Ansari.
According to the complaint lodged by Altmas’s sister, Farhin Shaikh, the accused and the victim were relatives and lived in the same residential complex in the Hodi Bangla area. Shafi lived there with his wife, Gulnaz, and their three children.
Police said tensions between the two men had existed for nearly a year. According to the complaint, Shafi had earlier confronted Altmas over his suspected relationship with Gulnaz. During the confrontation, he allegedly checked Altmas’s mobile phone, slapped him and warned him against maintaining contact with her.
On Monday evening, Shaikh was visiting her mother at Altmas’s residence in Musibatpura when she received a phone call from a relative informing her that Shafi was chasing Altmas with a knife near their residential complex.
When she reached the area, she found a crowd gathered near Zamzam Apartment and learnt that Altmas had been stabbed. He was rushed to a private hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
