Man held for murder of friend over suspicion of affair in Thane

THANE: A 34-year-old man was arrested by Thane police on Wednesday for allegedly murdering his friend over suspicions of an illicit relationship.

The accused, identified as Ashraf Rustam Molla, allegedly slit the throat of his friend Zakir Sahadat Molla, 35, killing him instantly.

According to police from the Shil Daighar police station, Ashraf harboured serious suspicions that Zakir was having an affair with his live-in partner.

Police responded immediately after receiving an alert at 6:00 PM on Tuesday afternoon and rushed to the crime scene. The victim's body was sent to a govt hospital for a postmortem examination.

The police registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder and launched a thorough investigation into the incident.

“We are probing the case further by following all the legal procedures," the police said.
