TRICHY: Three including a 28-year-old pregnant woman and her husband were killed in a fatal road accident reported near Aravakurichi in Karur district on Tuesday. The speeding car in which victims travelled lost control and rammed a stationary truck from behind after a two-wheeler suddenly crossed the highway.
Karur police said that a family of three including V Aravindh, 30, and his wife A Janani, 28, their two-year-old daughter Dwitha were commuting in a sedan car from Bengaluru to Usilampatti, their native near Madurai. Janani was eight months pregnant. The car was driven by one P Veera, 40, of Usilampatti.
While approaching Esanatham junction near Aravakurichi on Salem-Madurai national highway at around 6 am on Tuesday, a two-wheeler attempted to cross the highway. Though the car driver Veera tried to steer the speeding vehicle away from the two-wheeler, the car after hitting the two-wheeler had lost control and rammed a stationary truck on the roadside.
Even as the safety airbags were deployed, Veera, and the couple Aravindh and Janani were killed on the spot. The couple’s daughter survived the accident with injuries. The two-wheeler rider identified as P Pandithurai, 32, of Aravakkurichi was severely injured. Police said that the injured were admitted to a private hospital.
Bodies of the deceased were moved to Karur govt medical college hospital for autopsy. Aravakurichi police are investigating the case further.
