TAHDCO official sentenced to jail term for taking bribe

TRICHY: A former junior assistant of the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation Limited (TAHDCO) in Trichy was sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment for taking bribe.


Special judge in the special court for Prevention of Corruption Act R Karthikeyan convicted Balu for accepting 3,000 as bribe from an autorickshaw driver to sanction 25,000 as subsidy on his loan for purchasing the vehicle through TAHDCO in 2003. Sleuths from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested Balu when he was accepting the bribe.

The judge said that Balu should undergo five years of rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 5,000 failing which he should languish in jail for one more year and pay Rs 5,000 fine. The judge ordered the convict to undergo the punishment concurrently. Balu was sent to prison following the judgment.
