SRM AP delegation learns global AI models at US’ Carnegie Mellon
Vijayawada: A 4-member faculty team from SRM University–AP shared key academic and research insights gained during a recent visit to Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), USA, one of the world's leading institutions in artificial intelligence and interdisciplinary research.The faculty delegation comprised Dr Saleti Sumalatha, Dr M Naveen Kumar and Dr Ashu Abdul, assistant professors from the department of computer science and engineering, and Dr Sunil Chinnadurai, associate professor from the department of electronics and communication engineering. The visit focused on understanding global best practices in AI integration, research-led education, and student-centric pedagogy.
During their interactions with CMU faculty and researchers, the SRM AP team studied the application of AI in areas such as quantum computing, language models, robotics, and interdisciplinary projects addressing real-world challenges. The delegation also observed collaborative learning models, including peer programming, group problem-solving, and inquiry-driven discussions.SRM AP vice-chancellor Prof Ch Satish Kumar said the visit provided valuable global perspectives on embedding AI across curricula and research initiatives. He noted that such exposure would help strengthen SRM AP's research ecosystem and academic standards.Faculty members highlighted CMU's emphasis on societal impact, industry collaboration, and prototype-driven research, where students actively participate in solving real-world problems. The team also interacted with Dr Raj Reddy, regarded as the Father of AI in India, who shared insights on strengthening AI laboratories and aligning academic research with industry needs.The learnings from the visit will be shared internally through faculty development programmes. University officials said the outcomes are expected to enhance AI integration, research capacity, and innovative teaching practices at SRM University–AP.
