GK Veedhi-Seeleru road restored for light vehicles

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Alluri Sitarama Raju district administration has temporarily restored the GK Veedhi-Seeleru road for light vehicles, including two-wheelers, cars, and jeeps, as of Friday afternoon. However, heavy vehicles such as buses, lorries, and others will not be permitted to use the road for the next week. The recent heavy rainfall in the district resulted in four fatalities due to landslides and other causes.

The 50 km stretch between GK Veedhi and Seeleru experienced landslides at 15 locations, and seven bridges were washed away, rendering the entire route inaccessible to commuters. The district authorities have made temporary arrangements at various points where bridges were damaged or washed away, as well as where landslides occurred. "The ITDA Project Officer"

According to the district authorities' assessments, the surface of the 30.5 km R and B roads was damaged, three bridges or roads were either washed away or breached, and 37 culverts were damaged, increasing the damage estimations to Rs. 4.5 crore. The Panchayat Raj department suffered Rs. 7.79 crore in damages, with 153.78 km of 25 roads being affected. The Minor Irrigation Department reported damages worth approximately Rs. 22.31 crore.

A total of 22 houses, estimated to be worth 32.82 lakhs, were damaged, and around 10 lakhs worth of animals lost their lives. The district administration set up 33 relief camps and 153 medical camps and deployed an SDRF team along with 34 boats. In total, 2,855 persons were evacuated, and 750 metric tonnes of rice were distributed free of cost.
