SHIMLA: Grave annoyance was witnessed among student outfits of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) on Saturday over changing of director of University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) by removing professor Sunil Deshta from chair. Congress-backed outfit - National Students Union of India (NSUI) — encircled HPU vice-chancellor ADN Bajpai on Saturday. They alleged that for their own personal motives, university authorities had changed a capable director who was always ready to help students.
BJP-backed Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarti Parishad (ABVP) threatened to launch a massive protest against HPU authorities.
NSUI state president Rimple Chaudhary said that professor Deshta had been struggling hard for the rights of students and stood by them. She alleged that in HPU, whosoever tries to back interests of students is been removed from office.
ABVP state president Ashish Sikta said: "I will not blame the state government over the issue but the university authorities are involved in political conspiracies and they have been deploying their favourites on uppermost posts by removing the capable ones." On the contrary, HPU officials said that this was an administrative reshuffle and there was nothing to oppose the move.
