HYDERABAD: A group of over 20 students from various schools in Old City are all set to meet C V Anand, additional commissioner of police (traffic), on Monday and discuss issues relating to traffic in Charminar area as a part of a summer social activism programme.
Setting aside usual summer activities like sports, music, dance, etc., these students are attempting to familiarise themselves with various social issues and ways to get them addressed.
The group, comprising 26 students belonging to the age group 12 to 15 years from around 10 schools in the Old City area, have already started work on the traffic issues at Charminar.
Salman Ahmed, a member of the group and Class X student said, "On Saturday, we interacted with the traffic constables stationed at Charminar and clicked pictures of places where traffic jams occur frequently. We then submitted these pictures along with a letter to the circle inspector (CI) of the area. On Monday, we will meet C V Anand, Addl CP (traffic) and request him to take action against constables who do not perform their duty properly."
The budding activists also undertook a survey of the Charminar area, speaking to vendors, shop owners and residents, diligently noting down the problems they faced. Apart from the Addl CP (traffic), the students are also going to meet
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Road Transport Corporation (RTC) officials soon to discuss other relevant civic issues in the area.
The students are part of the one-month orientation programme titled 'Social Activism for School Students' taken up by Confederation of Voluntary Associations (Cova).
