GUWAHATI: After being denied a BJP ticket for the upcoming assembly elections, Assam cabinet minister Nandita Gorlosa joined the Congress on Sunday night.
She was serving as minister for sports and youth affairs and welfare of minorities. The BJP dropped Gorlosa from its candidate list for the Haflong seat, which she currently represents, and instead fielded first-time candidate Rupali Langthasa.
"Nandita Gorlosa has left BJP and joined Congress," Assam Congress media department chairman Bedabrat Bora said.
Assam Congress also shared a photo showing Gorlosa joining the party. The induction reportedly took place in Haflong, while her comments on the matter are still awaited.
Meanwhile, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Dima Hasao district on Sunday to wish Rupali well ahead of filing her nomination papers on Monday. Sarma said that 18 sitting MLAs were denied tickets and would be assigned different responsibilities after the election.
