NEW DELHI: In January this year, 20 residents of two unauthorised colonies received conveyance deeds under Pradhan Mantri Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana (PM-UDAY) and property registration papers. Some more residents have received conveyance deeds since then and over two lakh residents have registered themselves on the Delhi Development Authority’s web portal.
While most people living in these colonies said that PM-UDAY is likely to benefit them, they added that it didn’t influence their voting choices.
Complete Coverage on Delhi ElectionsBakul Chaudhary (32), a resident of Vashisht Enclave, an unauthorised colony in Burari assembly constituency, said that many people would now be willing to buy property in the area. “Voting for this assembly election, however, will be on other issues. Water and power are fine, but for me people blocking roads for months is an issue,” he added.
Mithilesh Thakur (33), a resident of Sangam Vihar, said that he wants the law and order situation to improve. “I have not received any benefits of the subsidy on electricity bills as I am a tenant. The next government should also take care of tenants,” he added.
Surabhi Devi, a resident of Govindpuri, who was waiting to cast her vote at a school in CR Park, wanted the government to improve the condition of roads in illegal colonies. “Even though the lanes have been paved with concrete, the problem of drainage remains. My vote will go to the party that will make such colonies liveable,” she said.
“I will vote for the party that has worked hard in the past few years. From water to electricity, and from good schools to CCTVs, it gave us all basic amenities,” said Anil Jaiswal, a resident of H-Block in Ambedkar Nagar.
Mangal, a resident of Uttam Nagar, said: “I will support a party that may help us have a better standard of living. We are thinking of the city first.”
