NDA, BJP lead in Assam, Puducherry and West Bengal as counting progresses
Across four states going to the polls, counting is well underway in Assam, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry, with leads shifting across the board. In Assam, where 64 seats are needed for a majority in the 126-seat assembly, NDA holds a tally of 97, having won 28 and leading in 69. Congress and its allies are at a tally of 22, all in leads, while independent and smaller party candidates cumulatively account for a tally of 7. In Tamil Nadu, the majority mark stands at 118 in a 234-seat house. SPA has a tally of 60, with 7 won and 53 leads. NDA is at 55, all in leads. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively lead in enough seats to put their tally at 115, still 3 short of the majority mark if those leads hold. West Bengal, the largest of the four assemblies at 294 seats, requires 148 for a majority. BJP holds a tally of 179, with 11 declared wins and leads in 168, crossing the majority mark on current tallies if those leads hold. TMC has a tally of 106, comprising 2 wins and 104 leads. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively account for a tally of 8. In Puducherry, where the majority mark is 16 in a 30-seat house, NDA has a tally of 18 with 13 seats already won and leads in 5, crossing the majority mark on current tallies. SPA has a tally of 5, with 2 wins and 3 leads. Independent and smaller party candidates cumulatively hold a tally of 7, comprising 5 wins and 2 leads.
