HYDERABAD: Terrorists garnered local patronage and operated with impunity in a part of
Telangana right under the noses of police until the National Investigation Agency (NIA) began a crackdown, Union home minister
Amit Shah said at a poll rally on Friday while declaring time’s up for the K Chandrasekhar Rao government.
“The NIA comes from Delhi and nabs three terrorists from this seat but Hyderabad police don’t do anything.
Should they (terror elements) be stopped or not?” Shah said during a roadshow in Rajendra Nagar. “If BJP comes to government, we will crush terrorist activity in the state.”
The home minister went on to allege that fear of AIMIM chief
Asaduddin Owaisi prevented
KCR’s Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) from observing September 17 as Liberation Day in commemoration of the merger of the erstwhile princely state of Hyderabad with the Indian Union in 1948.
Slamming BRS as a “party of the most corrupt” that had swindled thousands of crores of rupees, Shah warned that it would be a mistake for the state government to assume nothing would be done against the guilty. “KCR, don’t sleep soundly, your time is over,” he said. “Whatever scams were perpetrated, BJP will investigate and send those who indulged in corruption behind bars.”
He mentioned the “Miyapur land scam”, “Kavitha ji’s liquor scam” (alluding to the CM’s daughter and MLC
Kavitha Kalvakuntla), and the “Outer Ring Road scam” as some of the financial scandals allegedly engineered by the KCR government. At a rally in Armoor earlier in the day, Shah said BRS brazenly picked as election candidates the very people facing corruption charges. “BRS traded party tickets for money, just as it did for ministerial positions.
He said a measure of the state government’s utter lack of concern was the manner in which recruitment exams were conducted. “Deserving students and aspirants suffered as exam papers of the Telangana State Public Service Commission were leaked. If BJP is voted to government, we have decided to immediately give jobs on merit to 2.5 lakh youth of Telangana.”
On Congress, he said that just like BRS and AIMIM, the grand old party was a past master in appeasement politics. “These parties cannot help fulfil the dreams of Telangana’s people. Under a double-engine BJP government, you can become the No. 1 state in the country in terms of development.”
