GUWAHATI: Assam
BJP has lodged a police complaint against independent candidate for Guwahati parliamentary seat, Upamanyu Hazarika, accusing him of trespassing into a BJP election office. BJP convener Benudhar Nath filed the complaint after a video went viral on the Internet in which Hazarika, who is a Supreme Court lawyer and the convener of anti-influx group Prabajan Virodhi Manch, was seen campaigning in an empty BJP election office.
In the complaint, Nath said, "On Saturday, when our party officer bearers went to have lunch, Hazarika entered the election office, under BJP's Dispur mandal, with malafide intention of causing disturbance. After our officials returned, we found that many papers, pamphlets, banners and other election-related valuable items had gone missing."
Police said they will collect the video clipping and investigate the matter.
