CHENNAI: An election officer in a polling booth at Stella Marris College here may face action since he applied the

indelible ink

on the

right index finger

of Tamil superstar Rajinikanth -- instead of on his left index finger -- during polling for the Lok Sabha elections on Thursday .

"Yes. it was a mistake. The official should have applied the ink on the actor's left index finger. As per rule, if there is any problem on the left index finger, the ink could be applied on the other fingers of the left hand," said chief electoral officer (CEO) Satyabrata Sahoo.

Sahoo refused to say whose mistake it was.

It was not clear what prompted the actor – who has exercised his right to vote on several occasions and announced his decision to enter politics– to show his right index finger to the official. It was also not clear what made the official apply the ink on the right index finger of the actor. Were both absent minded?

Anyway, the CEO has sought a

report

from the district election officer.

Actor Rajinikanth is not new to controversies when it comes to polling. During the 2016 assembly election, videos showed the actor voting for the candidate of a particular party.

There are complaints against actors Sivakarthikeyan and Srikanth who voted on Thursday even though their names were not on the electoral roll.
