BJP is suppressing public voice: Priyanka Gandhi

GORAKHPUR: Playing up the anger and unrest among disgruntled shiksha mitras against the state government over their long-pending demands in her attack on the saffron regime, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi said that BJP was suppressing the voice of people, which is against India's democratic values.


Campaigning for RPN Singh, the Congress candidate from the Kushinagar parliamentary constituency on Friday, Priyanka said, "I have met Shiksha Mitras, including females. When they demanded their rights, they were beaten up and thrown into jails."

The Gandhi scion was referring to the 2017 protest by shiksha mitras in Lucknow to demand permanent positions and increase in the salary.

The protest took a violent turn when shiksha mitras were attacked by police.
