Bappaditya Bandopadhyay, who was busy shooting in Cherrapunjee for 19 days, landed straight in the ICU of a Kolkata hospital on returning. The director, who is suffering from acute pneumonia, had to shoot continuously in the rains for a film starring
Harsh Chhaya,
Bidita Bag,
Rajshri Deshpande and Merlvin J Mukhin. It's the prequel to his
Sohra Bridge about a father-daughter relationship in which Barun Chanda and Niharika Singh play the lead.
Bappaditya, who returned around August 16, was running a high temperature that he ignored in the beginning. When his condition worsened, he got admitted in a state-run hospital, where he was in the ICU until recently . The director's family has now moved him to a private hospital. Story goes that the director was in Cherrapunjee hoping he would get the required visuals for his movie -a take on justice. For the first five days of the schedule, there were no rains in Cherrapunjee, while the heavy downpour in Bengal made news everywhere. After which it began pouring and an excited Bappaditya would go all out to capture the scenic beauty of the place by getting drenched for hours on end. The yet-untitled venture weaves in three stories on justice and relationships. While the first one is about the relationship between a judge (Harsh) and a woman (Bidita), who is into escort service, the second story is about a woman (Rajrshi) leading an insurgent group and fighting against law. The third story is about a girl (Sheena) who is looking for a colourful coffin for herself. It shows her relationship with the grave digger (Merlvin). Bappaditya had just started editing the film when he fell ill.
Recuperating in the hospital, the director sounded his casual self. “I need to get back to work but when I don't know. It has already been a long stay at the hospital and the doctors have prescribed many more tests. There is likely to be an operation too. Problem is, I ignored the symptoms at first and am suffering because of that. But I'm super-excited about the film I shot; it's really something to look forward to," he said.
