"This is your film too." Those were his last words to Paoli.
Director
Anjan Das, who passed away last year after suffering from colon cancer, was upbeat about
Ajana Batash his unreleased film starring Paoli,
Vikram Chatterjee, Shankar Chakraborty and Kaushik Sen. And now that the film is set to hit the theatres soon, his lead actors can't stop missing their friend and mentor.
In 2013,
Ajana Batash was part of the Indian Panorama at IFFI, Goa. Back then, Paoli had accompanied the director to the festival. We had an amazing time in Goa. Anjanda had big plans for the movie. Little did I know that he will not be present when the film releases. Life is really strange," rues Paoli. The film an adaptation of Shorojontrokari by Joy Goswami is a story of urban relationships. Anjanda had earlier adapted Joyda's works for Jara Brishtite Bhijechhilo and Sanjhbatir Rupkathara. But this was his first in a complete urban setting. The film delves into complications of modern relationships. With technology ruling the roost in modern lives, more often than not we only communicate through Whatsapp, BBM, messages or email. We no longer sit and chat and are more comfortable texting our innermost feelings. Mystic Wind, as the English title goes, is a metaphor for those unheard words that can be felt in the air. Also, loneliness can lead to suicidal tendencies and the film shows how it can be cured through love and affection," says Paoli.

Banshiwala, but this, she feels, is a special film. Anjanda was very excited about this movie and, for long, Vignesh Films has been trying its best to release it. Anjanda had, in fact, done the layout of the first poster, which has now been put up across the city," she says.
Vikram, who was in Mumbai when the director was hospitalized, says, Goutam Ghose's wife Khukudi (Neelanjana) has designed the film's costumes. She called me one morning to ask if I had heard about Anjanda. I had not. Though I called him up that day, I couldn't make out what he told me over the phone. He had become frail and I thought I would come down in three days and meet him. But he passed away before that." A stickler for perfection, the director had even instructed his team to keep 15 days for promotions. And even when he is not there, his actors are set to follow his brief to the T.
