Koel Mallick has received a lot of appreciation for essaying the role of a female detective in Arindam Sil’s ‘Mitin Mashi’. The detective thriller is enjoying a great box office run in its second week and captain of the ship, director
Arindam Sil, feels there’s a lot to the story of ‘Mitin Mashi’. The female sleuth character is the mere reflection of modern women and that’s why people can relate to the character.
“I had wanted to do Mitin Mashi for a long time. Mitin Mashi is not just a detective thriller. There are other elements to the story. Woman power is the chief among them. Mitin is a woman who not only looks after her home, but also runs her own detective agency. And she does both with aplomb. Mitin is a woman of today and modern women can identify with her,” explains the ace director.
Koel Mallick echoes the same thought. “I truly believe that there’s a Mitin Mashi in every woman. Mitin, like so many of us around, is caring, giving and an educated homemaker who also faces the outside world with dignity, determination and sternness that emanates from deep knowledge and confidence. It’s about empowerment and since
Durga Puja also celebrates the strength of a woman, I feel that no time could have been better than this to release Mitin Mashi. We all grew up watching detective films like Byomkesh and Feluda, though as a child, I’m sure many of us have read Mitin Mashi (written by Suchitra Bhattacharya) too,” explains the Tolly queen whose act as a detective has been lapped up by the audience.
The film, bankrolled by Camellia Productions, is based on Suchitra Bhattacharya’s story ‘Hate Matro Tintey Din’. Beside Koel, it also stars
Vinay Pathak,
June Malia, Subhrajit Dutta and Riya Banik among others.
