As we all are getting ready to relive the world of Apu - Satyajit Ray’s eternal creation from the ‘Apu Trilogy’ — in Subhrajit Mitra’s period drama ‘Avijatrik - The Wanderlust of Apu’,

Arjun Chakrabarty

who plays the iconic character, stays positive with the hard work the team has put on to complete the film.

“Everybody knows there will be a comparison. But we did what was expected from us. We have ensured that this is a portion of the bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay book that Satyajit Ray didn’t touch. My director handed me all the freedom I needed to essay the character and I am happy with the end result,” Arjun told ETimes.

He also confirmed that the film will be released on theatres: “This is definitely a big-screen film. I am sure it won’t be released on small screen or even the OTT platform. We want to wait for the day the theatres reopen.”

“It’s an honour to be a part of such an ambitious project, especially since there is already so much cinematic history attached to Apu and his universe. The script is unlike any other that I have worked on, so far. I am eagerly looking forward to this journey. It is up to people to compare me with Soumitra kaku (uncle). My portrayal of Apu is not inspired by his role. I have gone by the brief of my director. Also, I will be sharing the screen with my father for the first time on the celluloid. So, that is a huge plus for me,” said an excited Arjun as sharing the screen with father

Sabyasachi Chakrabarty

for the first time is no doubt a thrilling experience.

In the film, Apu will relive his childhood through the eyes of his son, visiting Benaras and his village Nischindipur. ‘Abhijatrik’ is presented by renowned Bollywood producer Madhur Bhandarkar and produced by Gourongo Films.
