Fresh from the success of Icche, director Shiboprosad Mukhopadhyay is enjoying his space in front of the camera for Birsa Dasgupta Jodi Bolo Hyan. On Tuesday morning, the director began shooting for the film. Excerpts from an interview:What prompted you to take up this offer?Birsas father, Raja Dasgupta, is my mentor. Ive a long association with them.
When Birsa narrated my role, I told him that Id be able to commit my dates only if the shooting happened after the release of my film. Birsa insisted that the role is tailor-made for me. He said he needed me to play a fashion photographer.
So, did you base your character on someone?Atul Kasbekar is my role model for this character. I have to play a character that behaves like a photographer of his stature. The name of my character is Pat. I sport artificial tattoos too. Birsa has constantly updated me over SMS about the look and body language that I need to acquire for this role.
Icche completed 25 days. Personal achievement apart, how do you see this helping the cause of small films in Tollywood? The response from the audience is unprecedented. The way people are queuing up for this film, its evident that the film will complete 50 days soon. My film didnt have huge budgets but the returns have been very flattering. The success of Icche is a huge boost for both directors and producers.
What next?Accident should release sometime in November. Hello Memsaheb will release during the Pujas. Im working on my next scripts.
Does the industry treat you differently now?The faith that I too can pull off a hit is returning. Whats more important is that people are believing that an original story can work in the industry.
