Biswanath Basu is a happy man these days. Bagging a part in Ravi Kinagis as-yet-untitled next with Jeet and Koel has put that smile in place. Says the actor, who, along with Sujjoy, plays Jeets close buddies in the project, This is my fourth film with Jeet and second with Raviji. I always love working with Jeet. And after the stupendous success of Fighter, it was an honour to team with Raviji.
So, the moment this offer came to me, I gave my nod.
Biswanath, however, explains that his is not a comic character here, Post-Subarnalata, the audience will not have any problem accepting me in serious roles. My character is called Kartik and he plays a major role in sorting things out between Jeet and Sujjoy when their friendship hits a rough patch.
Films apart, Biswanath is happy to be back on stage after quite some time. The actor is part of Bhablai Bhalo, a stage production that was penned, directed and acted in by Ramaprasad Banik. I consider him to be my guru. So, when his theatre group approached me to play the role of Bhabla, which Ramada used to enact, I was elated. Of course, I was very nervous because I have this fear of having to live up to the audiences expectations.
But I also look at it as a challenge, says the actor, adding, This is the story of Bhabla, a simple village guy, who holds his mastermoshai in high regard. Its his journey to restore the eyesight of his mastermoshai. And in the course of his journey, the ills of society come to the fore. Its Bhablas battle against those evils.
Interestingly, Biswanath has not seen the earlier production of the play. Ask him how he will prepare for the role and the actor says, I am sharing my inputs with the team and taking their feedback on how Ramada used to enact the same.
Soon after the play, that will be staged on May 25, the actor will leave for Vizag to shoot for Debidas Bhattacharjees film, which also has Haradhan Bandopadhyay, Abhrajit and Rani. I play Abhrajits, (who plays a singer here), friend, philosopher and guide, the actor signs off.
