When words fail, actions speak. Up in arms against Supreme Courts December verdict that set aside the Delhi High Court judgement decriminalizing
gay sex among consenting adults in private,
Onir had since then changed his display picture on a social networking site into a black screen. And now, the gay rights activist has gone a step further. On Sunday, he not only got his hair trimmed, but had the strategically placed grooves shaved off, making 377 and a line cutting across it prominent.
Onirs latest haircut marks his protest against
Section 377, which criminalizes gay intercourse against the order of nature.
About this unique way of protest, the independent filmmaker said, I want every part of my body to say no to the verdict. The protest will continue till Supreme Courts decision is reviewed in February.
In an earlier interview to CT, Onir had said, We come from the land of Kamasutra, where sexuality in all forms is celebrated. Why should gay sex between two consenting adults bother anyone? Why should the government need to take such a regressive measure? This verdict is going to affect the social system. Weve been long fighting for social acceptance and its appalling, the way its now been trampled upon. Seems like theres a lot more in store.
