It was director
Rituparno Ghosh’s 60th birth anniversary on Wednesday. To celebrate his life, birthday and work, Rituparno’s friend musician
Debojyoti Mishra curated a programme at a city auditorium and named it — Of Raincoats and Memories.
Sanjoy Nag, Subhomita Banerjee, Anindya Narayan Biswas, Vachegan Tadevosian, Srabani Sen, Madhubanti Bagchi, Samantak Sinha, Subhankar Panda, Kaustav Goswami were part of the event.
For the first time, Debojyoti’s son Nishad (Mishra) and daughter Spandana (Mishra) put up their first stage performance at the event. “I wanted to celebrate Ritu — the versatile human being — on his 60th birthday and so, I designed this programme. This was basically to celebrate his life, his thoughts, his ideas, his cinematic and philosophical views, his love, his solitude, and most importantly, his lovelessness. I had the privilege of working with him and most importantly, to know him closely, so I shared anecdotes that are not known to people. I had a guitar and a pair of spectacles at Ritu’s house as no one would know when he would ask me to compose music for his films. After his demise, I never went to his house and I don’t know where my guitar and specs are.” He added, “Filmmaker Sanjoy (Nag) was his good friend. He shared that when Ritu used to be angry with anyone, he would communicate with that person in the third person. Basically, he was a child at heart.”
