Dev defeats Hiran in Lok Sabha Elections 2024; Emerges victorious for the third time from Ghatal constituency

Dev registered his victory in Lok Sabha Elections 2024. The actor turned politician and the Member of Parliament from All India Trinamool Congress won from the Ghatal constituency in 2014 and 2019. This is the third time Dev has won the seat from Ghatal and with that, the actor marked his hattrick as a winning MP.

Dev, who is one of the most popular mega stars of Tollywood, made his acting debut with the 2005 film ‘Agnishapath’, directed by Prabir Nandi, opposite actress Rachana Banerjee. Dev then went on to work in ‘I Love You’, directed by Ravi Kinnagi, which was a commercial success. Despite the financial success of ‘I Love You’, he did not take on any other roles for over a year. Dev made a comeback to acting in director Raj Chakraborty's action-romance ‘Challenge’, opposite Subhashree Ganguly. After making a successful comeback with ‘Challenge’, Dev went on to star in ‘Shedin Dekha Hoyechilo’ opposite Srabanti Chatterjee, in ‘Paglu’ with Koel Mullick. In ‘Romeo’ co-starring Subhashree. Dev has also been part of films like ‘Khokababu’, ‘Chander Pahar’, ‘Rangbazz’, ‘Buno Haansh’. In 2015, he appeared in Aparna Sen's action romantic drama film ‘Arshinagar’ opposite Rittika Sen. His performance of a mute gangster in the 2016 action drama film ‘Zulfiqar’ directed by Srijit Mukherji, earned him a lot of appreciation.

In 2017, Dev founded his own production company Dev Entertainment Ventures. The first film under Dev’s production house, ‘Champ’ was directed by Raj Chakraborty and had Dev and Rukmini Maitra in the roles. Dev went on to produce films like ‘Cockpit’, ‘Kabir’, ‘Password’, ‘Tonic’, ‘Kishmish’, ‘Projapoti’, ‘Bagha Jatin’, ‘Pradhan’ and starred in those films as well.

On the political front, Dev won the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections as a Trinamool Congress candidate from Ghatal constituency. He gave his maiden speech in the Lok Sabha after two years after winning the elections, in Bengali language regarding the implementation of Ghatal Master Plan. In 2019 and 2024, he was re-elected from the same constituency.
