Dev registered his victory in Lok Sabha Elections 2024 on June 4. The actor-turned-politician and the two-time Member of Parliament from the All India Trinamool Congress won from the Ghatal constituency in 2014 and 2019. He defeated the BJP's candidate from the Ghatal constituency, Hiranmoy Chattopadhyay, aka Hiran, with a margin of over 1.8 lakh votes.
With this win in the 2024 elections, Dev scored a hattrick as a winning MP in Ghatal. Dev says he is extremely grateful to the people of Ghatal, and he is keen on giving back the love he has received.
While campaigning before the elections this year, Dev set an exception for himself by appearing for blood donation camps and donating blood himself instead of only visiting religious places. During those campaign days, Dev had promised that he would plant as many trees as he could in Ghatal. He even had a specific number in mind. Dev promised that he would plant the same number of trees as the number of votes he would receive in the election, despite win or loss. Dev has won with over 8 lakh, 37 thousand votes. After his win, a happy Dev announced that he was going to plant the same number of saplings before this year’s monsoon.
Dev has defeated his former colleague, now BJP-affiliated Hiran, in the Ghatal constituency. During the campaign before the elections, Hiran made several allegations against Dev. Despite this, Dev had not retorted with bitterness or hatred. After his win on June 4, Dev shared a photo on his Instagram story where a deer (known as Hiran in Hindi) and tiger are seen in proximity. With that photo, Dev wrote, “It’s ok. Love is bigger than hatred.” It is evident who that message was directed at.
