Aneek Chaudhuri managed to complete the shoot of an important part of his upcoming Malayalam feature-length film ‘Katti Nritham’ just before the entire nation was shut down. The part sees the introduction of Draupadi in his film which has already received the backing of British Council recently.
Draupadi’s portrayal in ‘Katti Nrittam’ is a critique of the patriarchal society that has been carried forward from the era of Mahabharata to the present day era.
On this inclusion, Aneek tells ETimes, “Since Katti Nrittam is a modern day adaptation of the incident of Subhadra Haranam, one can never omit the inclusion of Draupadi’s portrayal. This is such a valid issue that is indeed still to be talked about.”
“In the film, Draupadi could be seen avenging her degradation rather than leaving it to her destiny. She could be seen questioning Arjuna for his lack of protection and significantly, she is portrayed as the person who nurtures and yet
has to offer everything she has in order to protect herself in the Mayasabha. The part also defines the difference between adapting to situations and being a chameleon; henceforth, I believe this is indeed a significant part to be included in Katti Nrittam,” Aneek adds.
The film has been divided into five chapters i.e. Draupadi, Abhimanyu, Arjuna and Subhadra, Arjuna and Draupadi and Subhadra Haranam.
Recently, the second teaser of the film got launched that is also known as the Draupadi Katha. It has received positive responses from some of the big names from the film fraternity Bauddhayan Mukherji,
Indrasis Acharya, Tisca Chopra, Pawan Chopra and so on.
Due to worldwide lockdown, the project is facing a delay; however, the team is hopeful is putting up a promising conclusion to this ambitious project.
