As the shooting of
Familywala comes to an end, director
Suman Ghosh shared a note reflecting on his working relationship with lead actor
Shiboprosad Mukherjee, describing their collaboration as a strong creative partnership.
Posting photographs from the first and last days of the shoot, Ghosh wrote that the images captured the journey of their director–actor association. He mentioned that his interest in Mukherjee’s work goes back to watching Rituparno Ghosh’s
Bariwali, where the actor appeared in a brief role. Over the years, Mukherjee went on to feature in several popular films, making
Familywala their first collaboration together.
Ghosh noted that the role required sustained exploration and experimentation, and said he frequently challenged Mukherjee during the process. According to the director, the actor’s range, use of improvisation and responsiveness to the material added new dimensions to the script. He also referred to Mukherjee’s theatre background at Nandikar, which, he felt, informed the discipline and approach he brought to the role.
With the shoot now complete, Ghosh said he would miss their on-set exchanges and the actor’s humour, recalling a light-hearted remark made during filming that compared a demanding scene to facing a tough bowling line-up.
Responding to the director’s note, Mukherjee said the film is built around a distinct idea that audiences will engage with in their own way. He added that the project gave him the opportunity to work closely with actors such as
Swastika Mukherjee, Sudipta Chakraborty, Anusuya Majumdar and Lily Chakraborty, describing the experience as enriching.
