When Iranian filmmaker
Majid Majidi decided to shoot his next, Beyond the Clouds, in India, it was music to the ears to millions of movie lovers. While A-listers from Bollywood queued up to be a part of the film, Majidi chose to make the movie with a host of fresh faces; among them is
Shahid Kapoor's younger brother,
Ishaan Khatter. The film, which is currently being shot in Mumbai, has brought immense joy to Kolkata too -
Goutam Ghose has been roped in to play a small but important role in the film.
Majidi, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker who touched the lives of the middle-class Iranians with his cinematic jewels like Children of Heaven, Baran and The Song of Sparrows, among others, might have set his film in India for the first time, but his rela tionship with Ghose goes back a long way . Rumour mills were abuzz that
Deepika Padukone too was supposed to star in the film as was
Priyanka Chopra. However, both the news were later refuted.
Ghose, an acclaimed filmmaker-cinematog rapher-composer, has to his credit 16 Nati onal Film Awards. Only last year, his film, Shankhachil, was adjudged the Best Feature Film in Bengali at the 63rd National Film Awards. Though Ghose has excelled in his many roles, only a few know that he is a very talented actor as well. Ghose, who was last seen in Chotushkone (2014), did two more films, Aayaam and Before Crisis, after that. Both films are yet to release.
Majidi and Ghose, whose films have been a toast of the international film circuit, had known each other for long. Said a source close to the unit, “Ghose, who doesn't find time to act in films, thanks to a busy schedule, agreed to play a small yet significant role when one of the producers approached him. For him, it's participation as a filmmaker in another filmmaker's project.“
Ghose, who was shooting in Mumbai till Wednesday , is expected to be back in Kolkata soon. Meanwhile, the film's first look was unveiled at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival, where it was received with tremendous enthusiasm.AR Rahman is scoring for the film.
