February 26 was a special day for Bickram Ghosh not only because the video of his Vande Mataram was released then but also because it got over a lakh online hits from people across the globe. More than 20 artistes have lent their voice or played in this project that is Bickrams interpretation of the patriotic song written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.
Apart from Bickram on percussions, the video features
Sonu Nigam, Shankar Mahadevan, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pt Ajoy Chakraborty,
Sunidhi Chauhan, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Kaushiki Desikan, Shubha Mudgal, Roop Kumar Rathore,
Shaan, Manoj Thakur,
Indian Ocean, Euphoria, Amaan Ali Khan,
Rahul Sharma, Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Niladri Kumar, Ganesh and Kumaresh, Pt Ronu Mazumdar and Rajesh Vaidhya.
Says Bickram, The response to the video is phenomenal. Twenty two artistes spontaneously worked in this project and Girish has done a fantastic job with the video. One an average, video is getting over 30,000 hits now. If this trend continues, Vande Mataram might soon beat Kolaveri Di. It has the potential to go viral.
For those who havent yet seen the video, it features all the artistes in very quirky situations.
All the artistes have been shown in various Indian backdrops that are both cool as well as very rooted in our culture. While Palash rides a scooter driven by a man who has painted his face blue, there is a line that reads: Bharat hot hai as Mahalaxmi Iyer has some mirchi. Girish, the director of Jal for which Sonu and I have composed the music, has shot this video. Girish is a rockstar at work. He got 25 sets created for this purpose. I like the quirkiness of the video and the colourful and vibrant India that he has showcased, Bickram signs off.
