I was criticised for playing mother to Jaya Bhaduri: Waheeda

At the peak of her career, Waheeda Rehman played mother to Jaya Bhaduri in Phagun. Her choice of roles was panned by critics. In town for the inauguration of Kolkata International Film Festival, the actress didn’t deny that she was ripped apart for playing a mom. She said, “I was criticised. Everyone told me I should have played both mother and daughter. I was like, hamesha aisa kaise ho sakta hai. But it backfired on me. When I did Guide, there was a lot of criticism and people asked me not to do the film that shows me as a married woman in the very first frame.”
